FIRE PREVENTION TIP – CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE, CLOSE YOUR DOORS WHEN YOU GO TO BED

The Crookston Fire Department is providing tips for Fire Prevention Week this week.  Today’s tip is to close your door before you go to bed to slow the spread of fire from Crookston Firefighter Brian Hanson.  “Firefighters across the country are encouraging you to close before you doze urging families to shut bedroom doors before going to sleep,” said Hanson.  “Nearly 60 percent of people sleep with their bedroom door open according to a recent survey.  That simple choice could mean life or death in the event of a house fire as a closed-door can slow the spread of flames, reduce toxic smoke, improve oxygen levels, and decrease temperatures.  Start making it a habit to close not only your bedroom door at night but your kids as well.  It’s also a good time to test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide.  And review your family’s escape plan.  These small precautions could make all the difference.  If you have any questions about detectors, making an escape plan, or close before you doze, call the fire hall at 281-4584.”
