Florence Irene Cyr – Obit

Florence Irene Cyr of Red Lake Falls passed away on   February 27, 2021, at the Villa St Vincent in Crookston.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date.

She was born April 2, 1922, to Frank and Emma (LaCoursiere) Violette at their home in Red Lake Falls Township.  She was the sixth child of sixteen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church.  She attended country school and later St. Joseph School.

Florence worked for area farmers assisting with children and general farm work. She also worked at Marcoux Corner giving pony rides to children.

On September 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to Romeo Henry Cyr at St. Joseph Church in Red Lake Falls, MN.  They were perfect for each other.  They lived on the Cyr Family Farm where she farmed with her husband.  Later they moved to Hibbing, MN where Romeo worked in the mines for approximately nine years, before returning to the farm in Red Lake Falls.   After they moved to town,  they worked as custodians at Red Lake Electric and the Red Lake Falls Liquor Store.

Throughout her life, Florence impacted the lives of many by her volunteerism.  She volunteered for twenty-three years at St. Joseph School supervising the students on the playground.  She was an active member of the St. Joseph Guild and the Forget-Me-Not Flower Club.  In 1996, she was named Red Lake County’s outstanding senior citizen.  She loved playing cards and gardening, giving away most of the produce.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

We thank her for teaching others the importance of being a real Christian – she put her Christianity into action.  Her favorite activity was making people happy.

Florence is survived by children:  Romeo (Mary Ann) of Red Wing, MN, and James (Geraldine) of Red Lake Falls, MN.  Grandchildren:  Edward (Mary) Cyr, Richard (Nancy) Cyr, Valerie (Mick) Scofield, Tammy (Douglas) Basten, Debbie (Jeffrey) Habig, Henry (Christina) Cyr, Dorene (Bradley) Erickson, and Bruce (Jenny) Cyr and 22 great-grandchildren.  Brother – Fred Violette of Red Lake Falls; Sisters – Mary Ann Swim of Sacramento, CA and Sr. Karen Violette of Crookston, MN, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Romeo H. in 1988, Philip Cyr- nephew whom they raised; Siblings:  Agnes, Francis, Sophie (Sr. Justina), David, Maurice, Clarence, Walter, Omar, Louis, Eli, Wilbert and Virginia.
