Florene Horn, age 78, of Ada, MN, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Benedictine Care Community.

Florene Skuza was born July 11, 1943, to parents, Julius and Erma (Sites) Skuza in Ada, MN. She was raised and attended school in Ada, where she met her high school sweetheart, Milan Horn. Florene graduated with the class of 1961. Shortly following graduation, Florene and Milan were united in marriage on August 19, 1961. The couple made their first home in Ada and later Grandin, ND, while Florene raised their four children. As her children entered school, Florene worked in the nursing home and later at the café in Ada. The family moved to Twin Valley, MN, in 1973 where they owned and operated Horns Grocery for many years. Florene was very active in the store and after its closing, she waitressed at several area cafes.  Florene suffered her first stroke when she was in her 40’s but fought hard to recover. Her strong will and wonderful sense of humor, along with Milan’s loving care, helped carry Florene through many hard times. Years later, as Florene’s health continued to decline, she became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center. She then moved to the Benedictine Care Community in Ada where she has made her home.

Florene was known for her baked goods and passion for cooking delicious meals for family and friends. Some of her famous specialties were her Christmas baking and homemade lefse always made with love. She raised a bountiful vegetable garden and canned her produce each season. Florene was a member of Wild Rice Lutheran Church where she attended for many years.  Every day, she looked forward to her visits from Milan and cherished time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Florene is survived by her husband, Milan; four children: Mark Horn of Crookston, MN, Kevin (Terri) Horn of Moorhead, MN, Rodney Horn of Hawley, MN, and Tracy (David) Nordskog of Daytona Beach, FL; two brothers, Arnold and LeRoy; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
