Floyd Stave – Obit

Floyd Harvey Stave, 82, of Crookston, MN, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 22, 2019, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with his family at his side.

Floyd was born at Lengby, MN on April 13, 1937 to John and Hazel (Larson) Stave. He grew up on the family farm and attended a nearby country school. For several years Floyd worked in Lengby and was later employed elsewhere in Minnesota and North Dakota before settling in Crookston. On February 24, 1972 he was united in marriage to Jean Ann Schroeder at Cheyenne, WY. The couple made their home in Crookston and together raised 2 daughters, Debbie and Kim. Floyd and Jean owned and operated Arrow Cab in Crookston and later established Floyd’s Taxi. In between those times Floyd was employed by Heldstab Fuel and Ice, LePier’s Tire Company, and Forsberg Tire. In later years he owned Floyd’s Heating Service from which he retired in the late 1990’s.
Floyd was a member and past president of Eagles Aerie 873. Every so often he enjoyed making trips to the Shooting Star casino in Mahnomen with his brother and one of their good friends. Floyd’s favorite pastimes included putting together puzzles, watching westerns on tv, going for walks, and fishing in his younger days. He was an avid gardener for most of his life, and while living at Oak Court he planted a beautiful vegetable garden, taking great pleasure in sharing everything with his fellow residents. Playing rummy and poker with family was great fun. He tried to bluff everybody out of their nickels and dimes at the poker table but they all seemed to be aware of his mostly unsuccessful tactics. He treasured time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. They all loved the endless supply of stories he shared with them and laughed when he would tell them about the “Lengby Walk.” The ‘Walk’ was an inside family joke that went back many years. Memories of Floyd will forever live in the hearts of his family.

Floyd is survived by his 2 daughters Debbie Ness and her husband, Randy, of Crookston, MN and Kim Rivera and her husband, Santos of Crookston, MN; his beloved grandchildren; Sarah (Cory) Moreno of Prince George, VA, Amy (Drew) Johnson of Crookston, MN, Kristen (Eric) Aguilar of Prince George, VA, Shaun (Anne) Ness of Crookston, MN, Nichole Ness of Crookston, MN, Katie Ness (Trey Rubie) of Grand Forks, ND, Amanda Stave, Tanya Rivera ( Chris Wade), and Brandi Rivera (Aaron Baldwin) all of Crookston, MN; great-grandchildren; Haley, Kathryn, and Gabi Parkin, Caitlynn and Brooklynn Moreno, Dylan and Tyler Elliott, Taylor, Jaelyn, Maci and Collin Johnson, Madilynn and Grayson Aguilar, Xavier, Zeke, and Ayden Wehrmeister, Wyatt Ness, Makenzie Ness, Taquira, and Jaylah, Reggie Rivera-Wade; 2 brothers, Milton Stave of Crookston and Marvin (Verna) Stave of Davenport, IA; sister, Janice Stave of Inver Grove Heights, MN; 2 brothers-in-law, David (Sherlyn) Sinkevich of East Grand Forks, MN and Dennis (Gladys) Bushy of Spokane, WA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
