FOSSTON BEAT SACRED HEART TWICE TO WIN THE SECTION 8A CHAMPIONSHIP

The Fosston Greyhounds beat Sacred Heart 6-1 and 6-4 to win the Section 8A Championship at Bemidji State University.

FIRST INNING
Fosston had a great start to the game as Cullen Norland reached on an infield single, and Hudson Bushee walked. The next batter flew out to center field to allow the runner at second base to move to third. After a strikeout, Brecken Levin hit a blast off the left field fence for a double that scored a run to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

SECOND INNING
The first two Fosston batters were retired before Aiden Wolfe drew a walk. The next batter grounded out to third base.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. 

THIRD INNING
Fosston added more runs with a leadoff single from Hudson Boushee and a walk to Tommy Simonson. Hudson scored on an error for a 2-0 lead. Carson Boushee singled before the next two batters flew out to center field. Aaron Norland hit a ground ball to third base, and the Sacred Heart player booted the ball allowing another run to score to give Fosston a 3-0 lead.
Sacred Heart finally had their first baserunner of the game when Mike Gapp walked with two out, but the next batter was retired.

FOURTH INNING
Sacred Heart pitcher Parker Erickson struck out all three batters he faced in the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Erickson recorded the first Sacred Heart hit of the game 
with an infield single, but the next two batters were retired and Fosston took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning.

FIFTH INNING
Fosston broke the game open with three runs in the inning as Tommy Simonson reached on an error, Carsen Boushee walked before Brecken Lavin doubled to score a run for a 4-0 lead. Thatcher Palubicki hit a sacrifice fly to score another run. Aaron Norland hit a ground ball to short, and Sacred Heart committed their fourth error of the game, and another run scored on the play for a 6-0 lead.
Sacred Heart had a one-out walk to Isaac Sundby, and Breck Bloom singled down the left field line, but Sundby was caught between second and third base and was out sliding into third. The next batter struck out, and the inning was over.

SIXTH INNING
Fosston had a solid start to the inning when Hudson Boushee doubled and Simonson walked, but the next three batters were retired.
Sacred Heart had the first two batters retired in the inning before Erickson singled, Ethan Arntson singled, and David Larson singled to score a run to bring the Eagles within a 6-1 deficit. The next batter flew out, and the inning was over.

SEVENTH INNING
Fosston had a leadoff hit batter before the next three batters were retired.
Fosston brought Carsen Boushee in to finish off the game, and he did in impressive fashion with three strikeouts as Fosston won the game 6-1 to force a winner takes all championship game.

GAME TWO – TRUE CHAMPIONSHIP-

FIRST INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Fosston broke the game open in the first inning with four runs. Cullen Norland walked, Hudson Boushee singled before Tommy Simonson hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. Carson Boushee singled to score a run, Brecken Lavin walked, Thatcher Palubicki singled to score a run, and Aaron Norland doubled to score another run for a 4-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Elliot Arnston reached on an error. The next batter was retired.
Simonson hit a one-out double, and after an out Levin walked, but the next batter was retired, and Fosston led 4-0 after two innings.

THIRD INNING
Sacred Heart had a solid inning when Breck Bloom led off with a single. After two outs, Jake Satterlund singled to score a run. Parker Erickson reached on an error, and Ethan Arntson singled to score a run to bring the Eagles within a 4-2 deficit.

FOURTH INNING
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Breck Bloom doubled down the right field line. The next batter grounded out, and the threat was over.
Fosston started the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles from Simonson and Boushee. The next two batters struck out before Aaron Norlund singled up the middle to score two runs, and Fosston led 6-2.

FIFTH INNING
Sacred Heart got going right away in the top of the inning with a lead-off single from Josiah Sundby, a Satterlund walk, and a rbi single from Erickson to get within a 6-3 deficit with nobody out. After a fielder’s choice, the next two batters were retired, and the Eagle threat was over.
The first two Fosston batters were retired before Simonson doubled to left field. The next batter lined out to the pitcher, and Fosston took a 6-4 lead into the sixth inning.

SIXTH INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
The first two Fosston batters were retired before Aaron Norland walked. The next batter grounded out, and Fosston took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion, and Fosston won the game 6-4 to advance to their fifth state tournament.

Sacred Heart ends the season with a 17-7 record. Fosston improves to 21-4 and will advance to the Minnesota State High School League Class A State Baseball Tournament at Faber Field in St. Cloud on Tuesday.
