FUNDRAISER FOR KAYLEE ACEVEDO HAPPENING AT THE CROOKSTON EAGLES CLUB NOVEMBER 4

On Thursday, November 4, there will be a fundraiser at the Crookston Eagles Club for Kaylee Acevedo to raise money for her and her family as she begins the road to recovery from a tragic accident earlier this month.

On October 4, Kaylee was riding her bicycle in downtown Crookston and, while stopped at the sidewalk a semi-turned from Robert Street onto Broadway, hopped the curb and struck her. Kaylee was dragged more than a block before the semi stopped. She was then transported to RiverView Health and, shortly after, airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo and admitted to the intensive care unit.

Kaylee’s family shared that her right leg had to be amputated at the hip, and while most of the major surgeries have been complete, she now faces a long and challenging road ahead of her. All funds from the fundraiser will benefit Kaylee and her family and help cover medical expenses.

Highland Elementary School Principal Chris Trostad and Crookston High School LEO Club Advisor Linda Morgan are responsible for organizing the fundraiser. Kaylee is a Highland Elementary School student, and Trostad said she has been an excellent student, and he wanted to help her and her family in any way that he could. “I’ve said we have great kids at Highland School, and she is a perfect model example of that,” said Trostad. “She shows up and works hard, and she is just a great kid. It makes it hard to see this happen to such a great kid, and it’s heart-wrenching.”

Funds from the fundraiser will also help prepare the Acevedo household for when Kaylee returns home. Trostad also mentioned that they will begin preparing Highland in ways that will better suit Kaylee for when she can return to school.

Morgan provided a few details about what will be happening at the fundraiser. “So, we will have a Taco Bar at the Crookston Eagles Club, and Taco John’s will be donating all the food,” said Morgan. “It will go from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.; the Valley Fiddlers will be there to play music from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. because Kaylee was in Orchestra. We will also have a silent auction throughout the night, and right now, I think we have about 15 items for that.”

There will also be three separate 50/50 raffle drawings taking place throughout the night as well. With the silent auction and the raffles, there will also be free-will donations accepted on behalf of the family. If you want to make a monetary donation ahead of the fundraiser, it can be dropped off at Highland Elementary School to Chris Trostad in the main office.

Morgan says they could still use a few more silent auction items for those interested in donating that way. “We are still looking for a few more silent auction items at this point and some potential help with that,” said Morgan. “You can get ahold of me or Chris for that, but we also take monetary donations as well, so any help would be beneficial.”

For those interested in learning more information or donating, you can contact Chris Trostad at Highland Elementary School at 218-281-5600 or Linda Morgan at the Crookston High School at 218-281-2144. There is also an account setup at Bremer Bank in Crookston for those who would like to donate that way. You can walk in and tell the bank teller that you would like to contribute to the Kaylee Acevedo fund.

Again, the fundraiser will be Thursday, November 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Crookston Eagles Club, and all are welcome to attend.
