Gary Lane, 71, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away with his loving family by his side at his residence on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
The funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Kristin Ostercamp Officiating. Burial will be held later in the spring at Landstad Cemetery near Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Gary Keith Lane was born on August 12, 1951, in Thief River Falls, MN son of Burton and Genevieve (Peterson) Lane. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Gary attended school at Lincoln High School graduating with the class of 1969.
On March 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Carlson at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple was blessed with two children Jennifer and Michael. They purchased his grandparent’s farm Southwest of Thief River Falls. In 2006 he met Virginia Dahl and welcomed her family into his life. He worked at Bugge’s Oil, Thompson’s Beekeeping, Arctic Cat, Soil and Water Conservation District, retiring from the Red Lake Watershed.
Gary enjoyed explosives and fireworks, raising various animals, fishing, trapping, hunting, trapshooting, mushroom and berry picking, playing cards and was a habitual practical joker. Most of all he loved the time spent with family and friends.
Gary is survived by his life partner Virginia Dahl; children Jennifer (Randy) Knott of Thief River Falls, MN, and Michael (Trisha) Lane of Thief River Falls, MN; Virginia’s children Cliff (Renee) Dahl and Angie (Corey) Steinbach; grandchildren Elaina and Anna Knott, Logan (Stephanie Lantz) and Bryar (Emilee) Lane, Virginia’s grandchildren Kate (Austyn Bourman) Dahl, Axle and Ryder Dahl, Brianna and Mallary Lalim; siblings Llewellyn “Gubby” Lane, Vickie Brown, Laurie (Larry) Panek and Stanley (Lynette) Lane; Erin Carlson, Rae Michael and Denise Swedenburg; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Burton and Genevieve Lane, grandparents Eckard and Nada Lane and Ludvig and Myrtle Peterson; sisters Mary Denise Lane, Eileen Frances Lane in infancy and Jennifer and Michael’s mother Phyllis.
