Get Kids Outdoors will be holding a breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, January 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Crookston Masonic Lodge, with a free-will offering.
“Get Kids Outdoors is very thankful and grateful for the Masonic Lodge here in Crookston, a very, very active club or lodge in the state, one of the more active in the state. And the whole community needs to take their hats off to what the efforts of the Masonic Lodge and our community is doing, not just the event coming up,” said Fred Parnow of Get Kids Outdoors. ” And the generosity of the lodge itself, the proceeds that are gained from the event, the Masons’ International matches that.“
Get Kids Outdoors main focus is as the organization’s name suggests, to get kids outdoors, including ice fishing. They have an ice house on the Red Lake River in Crookston. “We keep the heat on all the time, so when they get there, it’s warm, it’s comfortable. We’ve got nice chairs to sit on. It’s set up for six people. There has to be a minimum of one adult. If there are no adults, they can’t go out there,” said Parnow. “We want this house to be maintained and taken care of so it’s not damaged at all. And if we have issues, we’re not going to do it again. So this is for the community. Just take care of our house.”
To reserve the ice house, call Ace Hardware at 218-281-1749 and reserve the house with the date and time. Then go to Ace Hardware to get the key and bait (bring a container for minnows). Ace Hardware hours (Must pick up key during operating hours)-

There are some more activities coming up. “Cathedral School will have a fishing day down on the river on January 27. of January,” said Parnow. “They’re looking at 40, 45 kids, I guess, something like that. That’s great. And as it turns out, we’ll provide fishing rods for the kids there. We’ve got a lot of fishing rods.”
The Third Annual Get Kids Outdoors Ice Fishing day will be Sunday, January 31, at Island Lake by Lengby. “That is our ice fishing day we’re having out at Lengby. And registration will be up on our website on that here pretty soon, where kids can register,” said Parnow. “It was kind of designed for kids who don’t get the chance. So we’re going to give them first opportunity to sign up. If we’re short of kids, we’ll open it up to kids who have been on the trip before.” The registration deadline is noon on January 26. You can register by going to 3rd Annual GKO Ice Fishing | My Site 1.
