The Crookston Pirates Boy’s Hockey team was looking to end the regular season on a high note when they traveled to Red Lake Falls to take on the Eagles. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Red Lake Falls was too much and skated away with an 8-1 victory.
Red Lake Falls opened the scoring and eventually took a 2-0 lead into the second period of play. The Eagles outshot the Pirates 17-6 through the first period. Crookston would get their lone goal of the night in the second period from Jack Doda. It was Doda’s 9th goal in the last four games. Red Lake Falls’s offense continued its groove and the Eagles eventually took a 5-1 lead into the final period of play. Red Lake Falls added three more goals in the final period of play and earned themselves the regular season sweep over the Pirates with the 8-1 victory.
Ty Kennett and Evan Girdler led the way for the Eagles as each one netted a hat trick in the winning effort.
Jaren Bailey got the start in the net for the Pirates and suffered the loss playing all but the final four minutes of game time when he was replaced by Landon Walker.
Crookston’s three-game losing streak is snapped with the loss, and they end the regular season with a record 6-17-1. They will find out what seed they will be for the Section 8A tournament after the seeding meeting takes place tomorrow. Red Lake Falls improves to 16-7-1 with the win.
