GRAND FORKS AND EAST GRAND FORKS POLICE TEAM UP TO ARREST A MAN AFTER SHOTS WERE FIRED

On Sunday, May 26, at approximately 9:00 AM, the East Grand Forks Police Department received a report of shots fired in an apartment building in the 400 block of 17th Street NW in East Grand Forks. Officers arrived on the scene and found no injuries.

Witnesses identified the suspect as Marko D Ruot and stated that he had fled the scene to Grand Forks. Officers took statements and collected evidence found at the scene.

Officers with the Grand Forks Police Department and the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department began to look for the vehicle, which was located a short time later at an apartment complex at 3387 Primrose Court.

Officers set up a perimeter around the apartment building and attempted to call the suspect, but there was no answer.

Eventually, the Grand Forks Regional SWAT team was activated along with the Grand Forks Regional Bomb Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, and UAS team.

Officers finally contacted the male suspect, who complied with their instructions and was taken into custody without further incident.

Some tenants in the building were asked to Shelter in Place while others voluntarily evacuated the building. Traffic on Primrose Court was diverted for a short period of time. Ruot is being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center awaiting formal charges.

The Grand Forks Police Department would like to thank those involved citizens for their cooperation.
