GRAND FORKS FIRE DEPARTMENT CONCLUDES INVESTIGATION ON VEHICLE FIRE

The Grand Forks Fire Department has concluded an investigation of the vehicle fire that occurred Sunday evening, July 4th, on South Washington St. The fire occurred near the intersection of 47th Ave South and South Washington Street. There were no injuries in the incident and the fire was contained to the vehicle.

The fire is classified as accidental. The driver of the vehicle was transporting fireworks in the bed of a pickup when the incident occurred. There were some used and unused fireworks in the pickup bed, and fallout sparks from nearby fireworks south of city limits ignited the unused fireworks while the driver was on the way into town. The fire then spread to the vehicle until the fire was extinguished by GFFD personnel.

The Grand Forks Fire Department would like to stress that fireworks are illegal within the city limits of Grand Forks and fireworks should not be used near roadways, structures, or combustible materials.
