At approximately 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to 615 North 39th Street for a fire on a third-floor balcony. First arriving crews found a deck that was smoldering, as University of North Dakota Police Department used fire extinguishers to extinguish majority of the fire prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. Grand Forks Fire Department crews finished extinguishing the flames, cooled the deck area that was involved, and performed salvage and overhaul of the involved deck area. Damage was minimal.
The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with 4 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, and 1 command vehicle. Once the fire was extinguished, 2 fire engines and a command vehicle remained on the scene. The Grand Forks Fire Department was assisted by the UND Police Department, Grand Forks Police Department, and Altru Ambulance.
The Grand Forks Fire Department wants to remind everyone to have working smoke detectors on every level of your home and to extinguish and properly dispose of smoking materials.
