GRAND FORKS FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO STRUCTURE FIRE MONDAY MORNING

At approximately 9:10 a.m. this morning, the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to 506 North 48th Street for heavy smoke in the building. The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with 19 personnel, consisting of one command vehicle, five fire engines, and one ladder truck.

First arriving engine companies encountered heavy smoke on a three-story apartment complex’s first and second floors. All occupants exited out safely. A fire was located between the 1st and 2nd floors of the structure. Crews removed part of the ceiling and were able to extinguish the fire. The building sustained moderate damage from the fire.

The Grand Forks Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The Grand Forks Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s, along with the assistance of the City of Grand Forks Electrical Inspection office, determined the cause as a malfunction of electrical wire.
