On June 6 at about 7:14 a.m., Grand Forks Police Officers were informed of an intoxicated driver northbound on South Washington Street from 32nd Avenue South.
Officer James Opp saw the vehicle, a Honda Civic, and stopped it near 15th Avenue South and South Washington Street.
The driver was Brian Pyle, age 43, of Grand Forks. After a short conversation, Pyle attempted to leave on foot, and Officer Opp attempted to detain him. Pyle assaulted Opp and ran westbound from the scene. Opp pursued Pyle on foot and, with the help of other officers, detained him in the 1600 block of 17th Avenue South.
Pyle was charged with DUI, DUI Refusal, Assault on a Police Officer, Fleeing, Driving Under Suspension, and Failure to display current registration.
Pyle was confined at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
Officer Opp was treated for his injuries and released from Altru Hospital.
