GRAND FORKS POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO MAN WHO FELL OFF A BRIDGE

On March 12, 2024, at approximately 08:40 p.m., Officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were dispatched to the area of the Sorlie Bridge for a welfare check on a male subject.

Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with a witness on the bridge who said a male had climbed over the railing and was underneath the bridge on the support beams.

Officers from the Grand Forks Police Department and the East Grand Forks Police Department made contact with the male who was located underneath the bridge on the support beams. Officers communicated with the male for a long period of time in an attempt to get him down off the beams. However, the male was uncooperative with officers and fell from the support beam, landing on the ice.

Personnel from both the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Fire Departments ran out onto the ice to provide medical care to the male who had not broken through upon landing. The male was transported to Altru by an ambulance for medical treatment. The injuries to the male are unknown at this time.

The Grand Forks Police Department would like to thank the Grand Forks Fire Department, Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office, East Grand Forks Fire Department, East Grand Forks Police Department, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance on the scene, as well as Altru Paramedics.
