The Grand Forks Police Department has been contacted about several counterfeit $100 bills being taken in at several area businesses. The bills look and feel similar to a real bill; however, there is a small symbol on the left and right side of the front of the bill.
The Grand Forks Police Department would like to remind businesses to scrutinize any large denomination bills that they take. It should be noted that these bills may pass the marker test, so that is not a reliable means of determining if a bill is counterfeit or real.
If somebody identifies a counterfeit bill that somebody is attempting to pass, the police department asks that you get any identifying information from the suspect as possible, to include a description and vehicle information. Do not attempt to detain the subject, or do anything to put yourself in harm, but call the police.
The Police Department has collected images of a suspect and a vehicle and plans to release the information in the coming days.
If anybody has information related to these cases, please contact the Grand Forks Police Department at 701-787-8000.
