GRAND FORKS POLICE PATROL VEHICLE HIT IN DUI CRASH

On 6/12/24 at 10:54 p.m., Grand Forks Police Department officers were
dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Gateway Dr. and Stanford Rd.

Investigation of the accident determined that a Grand Forks Police Department
patrol vehicle, a 2023 Ford Explorer, was on routine patrol traveling eastbound on
Gateway Dr. approaching Stanford Rd.

As the officer neared the intersection with a green traffic light, a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling westbound on Gateway Dr. and attempted to make a left-hand turn to go southbound onto Stanford Rd. The PT Cruiser turned into the oncoming path of the patrol vehicle, leading to a crash in the intersection. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

The driver of the Chrysler PT Cruiser was identified as 37-year-old Mark Mondor

of Grand Forks, ND. He was evaluated by paramedics on the scene and declined medical transport. Mondor was cited for failure to yield the right of way. After further investigation, Mondor was arrested for Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

The Grand Forks Police Officer, a 2-year veteran of the department, was
evaluated by paramedics on the scene and declined medical transport.

Investigation of the accident is ongoing. Anyone with information or who may
have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.

The Grand Forks Police Department would like to thank the Grand Forks Fire
Department for their assistance on the scene, as well as Altru Paramedics.
