The Grand Forks Police Department was dispatched to the area of Lincoln Park for a subject in the water. A neighbor who lives in the area of the park heard a male subject yelling for help. When the officers arrived on scene they could hear a male subject yelling for help, however, they were not able to see anyone. The Grand Forks Water Rescue personnel were called out to help locate the male subject. The Grand Forks Water Rescue personnel were able to find the male subject standing on a tree limb in the river. The male subject was identified as Trevor Binstock, age 19 of Grand Forks. Binstock told the police that he decided to go kayaking to see the river. Binstock told the police that the river current pushed his kayak into a cement building, which caused the kayak to capsize. Binstock was wearing a life jacket and he was able to swim to a nearby tree. Binstock believes that he had been on the tree for 30 minutes before the police arrived on the scene. Binstock was transported to Altru for an evaluation.
