On Saturday, May 4 at approximately 1:19 p.m. Officers of the Grand Forks Police Dept. were dispatched to the area of 47th Ave. South and Cherry Street for a motor vehicle accident where the suspect vehicle a 1998 Ford Mustang had struck the house at the corner of Cherry and Pines Circle. The vehicle became embedded in the East side of the residence.
According to witnesses and by-standers, the suspects from the vehicle were attempting to flee from the vehicle. Both occupants of the vehicle fled North and with the assistance of the general public were taken into custody in the 4600 block of Cherry Street. The driver was medically assessed at the scene and the passenger was transported to Altru Hospital for observation.
The driver of the vehicle is identified as 22-year-old Grand Forks resident Preston Zaste who was cited for numerous criminal offenses including DUI Refusal, Driving Under Suspension, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Resisting Arrest, and other charges. Zaste was transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
No charges were filed against the passenger and no injuries were reported from the occupant of the residence. The house received moderate damage.
