The Grand Forks Public Health Department has been accepted for inclusion into the Influenza Vaccination Honor Roll by the Immunization Action Coalition. The Influenza Vaccination Honor Roll represents the champions who have taken the lead in mandating influenza vaccination within their organization or institution. During the past four flu seasons, 100% of Health Department personnel received vaccinations for influenza.
Grand Forks Public Health Department is committed to protecting the community through a mandatory flu vaccination program. “Leading by example and protecting our residents from the spread of communicable diseases is one of our most important goals as a department. A highly vaccinated workforce is also one that is able to respond to public health threats in the community, “ according to Director, Debbie Swanson.
Influenza is a serious disease that can cause death in up to 46,000 people in the U.S. annually. Many more become ill or are hospitalized, particularly vulnerable populations. Annual influenza vaccination is the primary means of preventing influenza and its complications. Frequent handwashing, covering coughs, and staying home during illness also prevent the spread of disease.
