On Saturday, May 22, officers of the Grand Forks Police Dept. were dispatched to an injury accident involving four vehicles at the intersection of 17th Avenue South and Cherry Street.
Reports indicated the striking vehicle had left the scene southbound on Cherry Street. A short time later a report came in that the vehicle was now stopped three blocks south at Campbell Drive and Cherry Street.
Officers came on scene quickly and located the striking vehicle which was a 1994 Chevrolet pickup. The driver of that vehicle was located. He is identified as Austin Bicker, age 18 of Grand Forks. He was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital. He is charged with DUI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Disobeying a Judicial Order. He was released from the hospital and brought to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center on those charges.
Preliminary investigation indicates Bicker was travelling north on Cherry Street and ran the stop sign striking a westbound 2000 GMC pickup on the driver’s side. The GMC and the Bicker vehicle then struck the front of a 2013 Kia Sorento that was travelling south on Cherry St.
The force of the collision pushed the Kia backwards into a 2011 Honda van.
Several people were transported by ambulance or private vehicle to Altru Hospital. Assisting on the call was the Grand Fire Department, Altru Ambulance, the regional UAS team and several investigators from the Grand Forks Police Department.
