Grant C. Sannes – OBIT

Grant C. Sannes, age 70, of Fertile, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Grant Carter Sannes was born on October 21, 1953, to Ray and Bernice (Ashling) Sannes in Crookston, MN. He graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1971. Shortly after, he moved to Fort Myers, FL, where he began a career with Eastern Airlines and later worked for the City of Fort Myers. Grant cherished the warm Florida climate, often enjoying drives in his VW van, convertible, and scooter.

After spending over 30 years in Fort Myers, Grant returned to his hometown of Fertile in 2006. He continued to serve his community, working for the City of Fertile and providing lawn care services throughout the area.

Grant was known for his fierce independence, a trait that defined his approach to life. His self-reliance was evident in his ability to tackle challenges and overcome obstacles on his own terms. Whether navigating the complexities of his career or embracing new opportunities and adventures, Grant consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to stand on his own. His independence was not just about self-sufficiency but also about making decisions that reflected his values and personal goals. This spirit of autonomy extended to his personal life, where he approached everyday tasks with a strong sense of determination and resourcefulness, always finding innovative solutions and embracing life’s experiences with unwavering confidence.

He is remembered by his nieces, Jill (Cody) Miller of Mandan, ND, and Molly (Chad) Olson of Dilworth, MN; great-nieces, Savannah (Dominic) Haugen and Ashleigh Miller; great-nephews, Chase Olson and Charley Olson; his aunt, Dora Olson of Ada, MN; and many cherished cousins.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Bernice; his sister, Sheila Messelt; and his brother-in-law, Mike Messelt.
