Helen Louise (Schiefer) Holland, age 90 of Fargo, North Dakota passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024.
Helen was born on June 3, 1934 in Kenmare, North Dakota, where she grew up and graduated from high school before attending Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Helen graduated from Concordia College in 1956. She met her husband, Wyman Holland, while attending Concordia and they were married in Kenmare, North Dakota on July 22, 1956. Helen taught elementary music in Finley, North Dakota and Lisbon, North Dakota public school systems before she and Wyman started their family and she devoted time to their children. Helen and Wyman moved to Ada, Minnesota in 1969 where their youngest child was born. Helen taught piano lessons for several years as her children grew, as well as working at State Farm Insurance and Norman County Abstract & Accounting. Helen was active in Grace Lutheran Church, including teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, directing the children’s choir and bell choirs, playing piano for accompaniment and as part of holiday services and programs, and as a member of Bible studies and women’s groups.
In addition to her faith and church, Helen enjoyed several hobbies, including playing piano, sewing, hardanger, quilting, golf, and baking. She also valued friendship and company with friends throughout her lifetime. Most of all Helen loved time with Wyman, her children and grandchildren, as well as her brothers and their families.
She was preceded in death by husband Wyman, parents Harry Sr. and Lilly (Nelson) Schiefer, brothers Harry Schiefer and Don Schiefer, and sister-in-law Lorraine (Dahlund) Schiefer. She is survived by her children Paul (Jane) Holland, John (Emilie) Holland, David (Tracy) Holland, and Mary (Dan) Hamann; grandchildren Connor (Ashley) Holland, Caylie Holland, Kristin (Michael) Weber, Laura (Toby) Anheluk, Tatum (Mitch) Holland-Cervenka, Griffin Holland, and Carlyn Holland; seven great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Donna (DeVore) Schiefer.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
Interment: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
