Helen Lutnes, 91, of Fertile died on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
Helen was born January 24, 1928 in rural Tabor Township, Polk County MN, the daughter of John Sr. and Annie (Chervonak) Grega. She was baptized and confirmed in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tabor MN. She attended elementary school in Angus, MN. Helen was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Tabor, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendant for several years.
On November 5, 1962, Helen was united in marriage to Walter Lutnes of Erskine, MN. They made their home in rural Erskine. In 1963, Helen joined the Union Lake Free Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, was president of the Ladies Aid and was also treasurer of the cemetery fund, along with being secretary of the church congregation.
Helen lived on the family farm until two days after her 88th birthday, when her appendix ruptured and had to have emergency surgery. She entered the Fair Meadow Nursing home in March 2016.
She planted gardens, canned in the fall, helped bale hay and milk cows. She always enjoyed family and friends coming to visit. Helen’s cat, Frankie was the love of her life.
Tragedy struck in 2010, when her son-in-law Jeff Hole died on April 26 and her husband of 48 years died on June 16th.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Jane Hole (Brent Slager), Erskine, MN; two granddaughters, Larissa (Jason Awender), Beltrami, MN; great-grandson Breylan, great-granddaughter, Addison Ann, Teanna (Brian Halstad) great-grandson, Wesson Walter, Winger, MN; and several nieces and nephews. A special friend she met at Fair Meadow, Al Braizer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Walter, brothers: John and Andrew, and sisters: Mary Torgerson and Anna Grega, Son-in-law: Jeff Hole.
Funeral Service: 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the services.
Interment: Union Lake Free Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Winger, MN.
