UPDATE: TWO INDIVIDUALS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AT NORTH ACRES ESTATES

UPDATE: 12/30/20 1:15 p.m.

Vincent Villarreal was a person of interest in the December 5 death of Jeffrey Allen Shulzitski at the Budget Inn Express in Grand Forks. Wednesday’s arrest was on warrants unrelated to the Grand Forks investigation.

The Grand Forks Police Department will seek to speak with Villarreal about their open investigation now that he’s in custody. The Grand Forks investigation remains open and active.

UPDATE: 12/30/20 12:15 p.m.

At about 10:50 this morning the Crookston Police Department and Pine to Prairie Violent Crimes Enforcement Team, with the assistance of the Grand Forks Regional Special Operations Group, executed a high-risk arrest warrant in the North Acres Estates trailer park in Crookston. Vincent Chase Villarreal, 28, of East Grand Forks was arrested on a MN Department of Corrections warrant and transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.

Jose Angel DeLeon, 38, of Crookston was also arrested on matters related to probation and/or court conditions and transported to the NWRCC.

Also assisting in the operation was the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand Forks Police Department, and Crookston Ambulance. There were no injuries, and the public was not in any immediate danger during the incident.

UPDATE: 12/30/20 11:24 A.M.

The Grand Forks Regional Special Operations Group, Crookston Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and other assisting agencies executed a high-risk warrant service in the area of North Acres Estates on Wednesday morning.
Crookston Police Chief Paul Biermaier said the suspect was taken into custody without incident. “This morning we learned of a suspect that was in the trailer park at North Acres Estates,” said Biermaier. “Because of the situation, it was considered a high-risk warrant service – arrest warrant. With the intel we had, we decided to get a hold of our Grand Forks Regional Special Operations Group. They came over, did all the briefings and the warrant was executed without any incident. The person was taken into custody. At this time, I’m not able to release the name but I probably will be able to after a bit.”

The heavy police presence included several teams within the Special Operations Unit, which Biermaier said is normal as each unit works as a team to keep everyone safe. “When the Special Operations Group comes over, they come over with their whole team,” said Biermaier. “It’s the Bomb Squad, SWAT Team, and the Crisis Negotiation Team. They’re a unit, a cohesive unit. They operate together. Everybody has a special job. It looks like something pretty drastic, but that’s how it works. And that’s how we keep everybody safe.”
