HIGHLAND 6TH-GRADERS GO SHOPPING FOR CROOKSTON COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS BASKETS

The sixth graders at Highland School in Dan Halland, Marcia Scholler, Dixie Sele, and Kris Stegman’s classes went shopping Thursday morning at the Crookston Hugo’s Family Marketplace and Wal-Mart to get food for the Crookston Community Christmas Baskets.   Sixth-grader Gunnar Groven said the students were shopping for needy families. “We were shopping for needy families during the Christmas season,” said Groven.  “We got corn, beans, ketchup, vegetables, and some fruit.”

The students, their families, and the Highland Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) donated money so the students could purchase the food according to Groven. “We got a lot of donations from students,” said Groven.  “And also, the PTO donated $400 to the sixth grade.”

Ray Dusek, a member of the Crookston Community Food Basket Committee, thanked the students and the Highland PTO. “As a member of the committee, we really thank that 6th-graders at Highland,” said Dusek.  “They brought in over $800 of food.  That’s a really big help.  We thank them and the PTO for a job well done.”

You can learn more about the sixth-graders class project to shop for the food baskets and how it correlates with what they are learning in class by listening to Focus on Education Saturday morning at 8:35 on KROX.

The Crookston community is invited out to the armory on Friday night, December 13th, at 6:00 p.m. to help fill the Community Christmas Baskets. Baskets will be delivered to the homes on Saturday, December 14th beginning at 8:30 a.m.
