HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROVIDED WITH A FRESH NEW LOOK

Highland Elementary School has a new look as of two weeks ago. If you’ve stopped by during the last two weeks, you probably will have noticed that when you walk inside the school, the main office windows have a pirate logo and the words “Highland Elementary School” written on them. This was done during Martin Luther King Jr. Day when there was no school and provides a fresh and new look to the school.

Highland Elementary School Principal Chris Trostad said the idea had been talked about and discussed in the past, and two specific people got the ball rolling. “Jana (Hodgson) and Crystal (Rock) have been pushing this idea now for a while,” said Trostad. “They thought it would be nice to spice things up a little bit and get a fun, unique design on the see-through windows of the office. The High School has a lot of the Pirate logo and pride, and we don’t really have that here. So, they came to me with the idea, and I thought it was a good idea, and we got the School Board and Superintendent Jeremy Olson on board, and it looks really nice now.”

One of the goals of the process was to brand Highland Elementary School with the Pirate logo and connect it with Crookston High School as much as possible. Trostad believes the new office windows will do just that and provided one other unique way the new office windows will be of value. “One of our goals was to definitely brand our school more with the Pirate, and that’s why we chose that design,” said Trostad. “We also want kids to see all the activities that are available for them at the High School when that time comes, so that’s the one piece of it. The other piece of this is that if a kid does get sent to the office before, it was see-through glass, and now it is protected a little bit so everyone doesn’t have to look in and see a student that may be sitting there. So, it’s kind of nice to provide that privacy for those kids. This is absolutely because of Jana and Crystal; they were the ones that got this started, and kudos to them.”

The school ordered through BSN, and two custodians at Highland Elementary School helped install the new look. A couple of pictures of the new design can be found down below –
