The Highland Elementary School PTO is hosting its fourth annual back-to-school supply drive from now until September 2. Supplies can be dropped off at Highland School in the boxes available inside the entry doors, at Back-to-School Registration Day on Thursday, August 19, or Meet-the-Teacher nights September 1 and September 2 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
PTO Secretary at Highland Schools Lorri Capistran discussed the project in detail and what items people can drop off. “We sponsor a Back-to-School supply drive to help out our families’ students and teachers so that they have all the supplies they need to get back to school,” said Capistran. “Some of the supplies we look for are anything from notebooks, pens, crayons, and erasers. One of the items we typically run out of is the dry erase board markers, so that would be a great item if you wanted to donate those.”
Other items that can also be included are Post-it Notes, index cards, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and Ziplock bags. Any school supply is greatly appreciated by the school and will ensure everyone has all they need to start the school year right.
The school would prefer the school supplies as the main form of donation; however, if you’re not going out and shopping, the school will accept a monetary donation. “If you’re not going out right now and gathering materials but still want to help with the project, we would definitely accept monetary donations,” said Capistran. “Those could either be dropped off or sent to Highland School to the PTO members, and they’d be happy to go out and do the shopping for you.”
If you’re interested in donating or participating in the project and have more questions, you can call the Highland School Office at 218-281-5600, and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Capistran says the project has been very successful in past years. “We’re very appreciative of anything that is donated,” said Capistran. “We know that the pandemic has been tough on families financially, and school supplies are not inexpensive to buy, so any little bit helps. We want to make sure everyone has anything they need going back to school.”
