Hugo’s Family Marketplace in Crookston has temporarily changed store hours and implemented policies to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and keep customers healthy. “As of this past Saturday, Hugo’s as a whole decided to switch our hours of operation,” said Assistant Store Director Nick Nelson.
Monday-Saturday – 6:00 a.m to 10:00 p.m. From 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. they offer senior shopping, and people with illnesses or weak immune systems to come in and shop before everyone else comes in.
Sunday – 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. a senior hour. “It’s time for us to close a little early, open a little later to get the shelves filled, focus more on cleaning and stuff like that,” said Nelson.
Nelson said policies aimed at keeping people healthy include no reusable bags and increased efforts to disinfect areas people routinely touch. “One of the main things we did is no reusable bags for the time being,” said Nelson. “The main reason for that is it’s a good chance to bring in bacteria from the outside. Employees are washing their hands multiple times an hour. We’re disinfecting keypads, credit card machines, the tills, every 20 minutes. The cashiers are using gloves. We’re going through boxes of gloves daily to keep the cleanliness going. We’re just following the nation right now, keeping cleaning. Clean, clean, clean. That’s the biggest thing right now.”
Some items in the store, such as paper and eggs, will also have limits per customer due to shortages, and no rain checks will be issued due to uncertainty of when the products will be received, according to Nelson. “We have limited our paper to one per customer,” said Nelson. “We usually get trucks in on Monday, Wednesday, Friday nights, so Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday would be your best chance to get paper for the foreseeable feature. We have been getting some cases periodically. Eggs are another thing we limited to one, it was at two, but we’re going down to one, so everybody has a chance to get eggs. Also, with the ads, we’ve implemented no rainchecks at this time. It’s the best way to go at this point because there is so much uncertainty about which product is going to come in and vice versa.”
Nelson said Hugo’s would continue to do the best they can to provide what the community needs. “Just like to thank everyone for supporting us, and we’re here for you guys,” said Nelson. “We’ll do the best we can. Thank you.”
