Update (9:37 p.m. Wednesday)- Authorities were able to apprehend the escaped inmate late Wednesday evening.
Tony Mitchell Krueger was apprehended without incident and was medically cleared and transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston. Assisting agencies were – Polk County Emergency Management, Minnesota State Patrol, Norman County Sheriff’s office and canine unit, Mahnomen County Sheriff’s office, White Earth Police Department, United States Customs and Border Patrol Canine Unit, Thief River Falls Police Department Police Department, Winger Fire Department, Essentia Ambulance and Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force.

On August 22, a Northwest Regional Corrections male inmate escaped from custody. Inmate, Tony Mitchell Krueger age 20 was being transported from the Correctional Center to Riverview Emergency Room in Crookston for an apparent non-life threatening medical condition and injury. Krueger was not restrained during the transport due to the nature of the reported injury. During the transport, Krueger was able to coax the corrections officer into pulling over and away from the driver’s seat by acting like he was in extreme pain and needing assistance to adjust his positioning in the transport vehicle. When the Correctional Officer pulled over and went to assist Krueger, he was able to steal the vehicle and flee from the area. No injuries were sustained by the transport officer. Krueger was later apprehended in rural Winger and returned to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center where he remains until additional charges are filed.
ORIGINAL STORY
On Wednesday, August 22 at 1:17 p.m., a Northwest Regional Corrections Officer was transporting an inmate when the inmate overpowered the corrections officer while in Crookston. The inmate then stole the transport vehicle and fled the scene. The stolen vehicle was located near Erskine by the Minnesota State Patrol. A trooper attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A trooper performed a Pursuit Intervention Maneuver (PIT) ending the vehicle chase. The suspect then exited and fled the scene on foot. The suspect was last seen fleeing into a farm field at the junction of Polk County Road 204 and US Highway 59 near Winger. The suspect was wearing blue jail-issued clothing. At the time KROX was notified (5:09 p.m. on Wednesday), the suspect was wearing blue jail-issued clothing. At this time there are multiple law enforcement agencies searching for this suspect. The public is asked to call law enforcement if they see the suspect or have any information leading to his apprehension.
The suspect is Tony Mitchell Krueger. He is about 5’11, weighing between 180 to 190 pounds with shoulder length reddish/brown hair with a beard/facial hair. Krueger has brown eyes and a medium build and was last seen blue jail-issued pants and a white shirt/tank top. He may no longer have his shirt on.
