Irvin Tastad – Obit

Irvin Tastad, 98, Fertile, MN passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.

Irvin was born on September 25, 1922, in Rolette, ND on the family farm to Andrew and Anna Tastad. He was baptized and confirmed at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette. He graduated from Rolette High School in 1940. Upon graduation, he stayed to work on the family farm, while his older brothers served during WWII. Irvin met Margaret Jenson and they married in 1952. While living in Rolette he worked for the Soil Conservation Department, and later, as a butcher in the local grocery store. In 1964 he moved his family to Fertile, MN where he continued to work as a butcher at the Red Owl store.

During his retirement years, he had the opportunity to take a trip to Norway with his brother Kenneth to visit relatives. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; sons, Gary (Debbie), Kirby (Jessie), and Lanny; daughter, Heidi (Ed) Helgeson; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle, Bernice, Gladys, and Esther; and brothers, Selmer, Albert, Tilford, and Harold.

Funeral: 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN, following all the Minnesota and CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All must wear a mask to attend.

Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the church.

Interment: Concordia East Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
