Crookston High School senior Isaac Thomforde, signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Northwestern University in St. Paul and play tennis for the Eagles.
Thomforde will be in his fourth year of varsity tennis and is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Section 8A Boys Tennis Singles tournament last spring. Isaac came out for tennis his freshman year and took some lumps while learning the game and went 3-17. He showed tremendous improvement during his sophomore year and went 19-4 while playing first and second doubles. During his junior year, he moved up to play predominantly first singles and had a 15-7 record while playing top-notch competition. He has gone 34-11 in his last two years and will be one of the top singles players in the section this spring.
Isaac has played in several USTA tournaments across the region.
Thomforde wants to be a pastor and chose Northwestern because they have a good ministry program and biblical studies, and he felt the focus on Christ was stronger than other colleges he visited. He felt welcome, and it felt like home, and playing tennis was a nice bonus.
Northwestern is an NCAA Division 3 school and a member of the UMAC conference, which includes Minnesota-Morris, Wisconsin-Superior, Martin Luther, Northland, Bethany Lutheran, North Central, and Crown College.
