Jacob Baumgarten – Obit

Jacob Alex Baumgarten, 64, Ada, MN, died Friday, May 17, 2019, with his family by his side at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

Jacob was born June 11, 1954, in Minot, ND, the second of 5 siblings to William and Julie (Greeman) Baumgarten.  He was educated in Fisher, MN and graduated from high school in Deering, ND.  He helped his grandfather, Michael Greeman on the family farm in Deering for much of his life.

He married Melvina Leeper in Keystone, SD on January 30, 1976, and they have four daughters; Joy, Margaret, Melissa and Jennifer.

Jacob was a “Jack-of-all-trades”; a dairy farmer, construction worker, plumber and truck driver.  He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who was in need. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his grandkids and loved teasing them.  He also loved his dogs; Marley and Ruby.  Jacob knew many people and he loved to visit.  He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Jacob was preceded in death by his parents, brother,  Daniel Baumgarten, brother-in-law Michael Smith and his favorite dog Marley.

He is survived by his wife Melvina, Ada, MN; daughters: Joy (Scott) Neuhalfen, Lansford, ND; Margaret (Rick) Feist, Minot, ND; Melissa (Shawn) Young, Gary, MN;  and Jennifer (Douglas) Ingold, Glenburn, ND; siblings: Michael (Karen) Baumgarten of Littleton, Colorado; Julene Smith, Fargo, ND; Jim (Jerra) Baumgarten, Sawyer, ND; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral: 10:30AM, Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Son Rise Evangelical Free Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
