Janice June Urness, age 80, of Crookston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston, MN, with her family by her side.

Janice June Stickel was born on August 19, 1940 in Eureka, SD, the daughter of the late Ervin and Martha (Lyczewski) Stickel. The family moved to Crookston, MN, in 1952 and Janice attended Crookston Central High School. On December 28, 1957, she was married to Mylan Lee Urness at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston, MN. They were married for 52 years when Mylan passed in 2010. Their first year of marriage was spent in Duluth, MN, and then they came back and made their home in Beltrami, MN, raising 4 children, Perry, Dean, Brett, and Myla, and later helping to raise their many grandchildren.

Janice was very talented at sewing, crocheting, quilting, upholstering, and many other crafts. Over the years she sewed wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, family clothes, and tailored for members of the community. Most of all, she was devoted to her family. Many gatherings were held at the family home with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren enjoying themselves inside and outside of the house. She enjoyed going on drives through the countryside with Mylan, camping with her family, visiting with close friends and family, and playing cards.

Janice is survived by her 3 sons, Perry Lee (Jennie) Urness of Beltrami, MN, and Dean Scot (Rita Ozbun) Urness and Brett Mitchell (Kimberly) Urness, both of Grand Forks, ND; daughter, Myla Jan (Paul) Epley of Frisco, TX; 10 grandchildren, Cody (Jessica), Brett (Ashley), Kelly (Robert), Chad (Ericka), Desiree, Nicole (Jeremy), Jared (Alicia), Brittney (Derek), Kayla (Kevin), and Cameron; and 23 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Mylan Urness; parents, Ervin Stickel and Martha Corson; sisters, Darlene Harstad and Ervena Green; and brothers, Donald and Gordon Stickel.

Memorial Service celebrating Janice’s life will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Stenshoel- Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN, with a time of visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
