Jean Theresa Huot was born on November 17, 1930, in Crookston, MN, the fifth of nine children born to Ernest Isidore and Emma Rose (Benoit) Huot.
She grew up near Huot park, on the Red Lake River living at the Huot store which was a gathering place for friends and neighbors. Many a Sunday was spent at the Huot store playing cards and visiting after church.
Jean attended the Huot country school. After graduating from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, Jean married Chester “Thane” Beyer on August 4, 1949. They lived with Thane’s parents in Dorothy for the first years of their marriage; they purchased the former Nick and Minnie Drees farm in 1957 and finally got a home of their own for their growing family. Jean worked hard raising twelve children on the dairy farm and documenting their journey with many photographs.
She served as a Key leader for the Pembina Trail 4-H Club for over 30 years and was the treasurer for the Louisville Township Board for many years. (Louisville Township was named after Louis Huot, Jean’s great-grandfather.) She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. As a member of Saint Dorothy’s Catholic Church, Jean served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and member of the Ladies’ Guild. After St. Dorothy’s Church closed, she became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Jean loved to play games with friends and family; her door was always open. She was the happiest on the dance floor. She baked the best bread and her cooking will be missed by all.
She is survived by her children Greg (Celeste), Colorado Springs, CO; Debi Forness (Rodney Sondrol), Climax, MN; Barb Aretz, St. Cloud, MN; Curt (Laura), Chris (Steve Kruse), Neil (Polly), and Chester “Chip,” all of Red Lake Falls, MN; Tim (Ronald Frederick), Los Angeles, CA; Lori Thomas (Ted), Woodhull, NY; Robin (Tiffany Cross), Red Lake Falls, MN; and Sara Foster (Jason), Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Tani Escandell (David), Janel Peddy (Greg), Thana Nipper (Bob), Bethany Grant (Joe), Adam Forness (Kacie), Amy Powell, Kacy Slyt, Nyssa Renner (Jeffrey), Luke Forness (Jessie), Laney Paine (Thacher), Forrest Aretz, Brooke Houghton (Trevor), Ashley Aretz, Victoria Kraemer (Tim), Kristi Bruggeman (Joe), Stacy Plautz (Derek), Sara Derosier (Brad), Ryan Schultz (Jennifer), Katie Roth (Christian), Natalie Beyer, Jessica Savino (Mike), Connor, Erin, and Matthew Thomas; Hewitt, Jackie, and Amira Foster.
