Jerry Fjeld – Obit

Jerry Fjeld, age 74, of West Fargo, ND, died Monday, November 29, 2021, at Sanford Health in Fargo due to complications of Covid-19.

Jerry Wayne, the son of Charles and Bernice (Hirchert) Fjeld was born on November 10, 1947, in Ada, MN, the middle of their five children. The family made their home near Ada where Jerry attended school.  As a young man, Jerry met Darlene Rushton, and after much persistence, he stole her heart.  The couple was united in marriage on June 15, 1974, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN.  Together, they lived in Red Lake Falls, MN for one year, before relocating to Harwood, ND.  They later moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area where they have continued to make their home.  Over the years Jerry worked several jobs, but he spent most of his career employed with OK Tire.  After many years of dutiful service, Jerry retired as his health declined.  Although on oxygen for over ten years, Jerry stayed as active as he was able.  He often took his truck out for a drive and enjoyed looking at cars.  Through their 47 years of marriage, Jerry and Darlene had many adventures.  He had a strong personality and a tender heart.  Jerry was truly a daredevil and loved to try new things. In his younger years, he enjoyed driving race cars and was known to go a bit faster than he should have.  His love for racing continued, and he became an avid NASCAR fan.  One of his most treasured memories was watching a live NASCAR race in Lansing, Michigan.  Jerry and Darlene traveled a lot, often taking road trips across the country.  He even had the opportunity to ride in a helicopter with his nephew Derek Rushton over the Snake River in Washington and go parasailing in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. Jerry was truly devoted to his family.  He cherished Darlene, his siblings, and all his nieces and nephews.  Family trips to Pike Lake in Minnesota were a blessed tradition for many years.  He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, liked watching football, and loved a cold beer.  His quick smile and cheerful stories will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Darlene of West Fargo, ND; three sisters: Bonnie (Marvin) Merkens of Twin Valley, MN, Diana Woltjer of Twin Valley, and Charlene (Dennis) Brandt of Ada, MN; sisters-in-law: Karen Fjeld of Twin Valley, Diana (Sam) Mahler of Gary, MN, Patty (Jason) Lansing of Fargo, ND, Kathy Thompson of West Fargo, and Laura Samuelson of Miami, FL; brothers-in-law, David Rushton and Dennis Rushton, both of Michigan, ND; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, who were dear to his heart.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Bernice; his mother and father-in-law Myrtle and David Rushton; his brother, Dennis Fjeld; infant sister, Sandra; and two brothers-in-law, Marlyn Woltjer, and Clayton Thompson Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm until 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2021, all at the church. Burial will be in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, MN.

The service will be recorded and available on our website shortly following the service. For those who will be attending, masks are strongly encouraged.

Please feel free to sign the guestbook, send condolences and view other opportunities which may be available to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions.
