Jerry was born in Bemidji on September 5, 1946, the son of Ludwig and Ethel (Alsop) Fossand. After graduating from Bemidji High School with the Class of 1964 he attended Bemidji State College for one year. From 1966 through 1972 Jerry served his country as a Specialist 5 with the US Army Reserve. In 1971 he was united in marriage to Sedona Reindahl and to their union 3 children were raised: Darryn, Dana, and Erica. Jerry was employed by the MN State Highway Department until 1976 when he opened his own business known as Jerry’s Bait and Tackle. In 1986 he began working for Red Lake Builders. Later in life he built and remodeled homes in the Bemidji area. After heart surgery in the spring of 2021, he moved to Crookston where he made many new friends while residing in Oak Court.

While growing up in Bemidji Jerry played baseball and excelled as a pitcher for his team. He was a lifelong hunter but especially enjoyed being a fishing guide and going out in the boat with family and friends every chance he could. Jerry loved spending time with his family and nothing gave him greater pleasure than being at a game played by one of his kids or grandkids. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan and depending on the season he was watching that game on FOX Sports North. Jerry was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Bemidji.

Jerry is survived by his 3 children: Darryn (Dana) Fossand of Highlands Ranch, CO, Dana (André) Louw of Crookston, MN, and Erica (Jenna) Fossand-DeFeyter of Coon Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren: Joshua (Mariah Christian) Fossand, Alex Fossand, Justin Fossand, Wyatt Erickson, and Jake Erickson; 2 brothers, Dean (Karen) Fossand of Detroit Lakes, MN and George (Kaydell) Gaasvig of Bemidji, MN; and extended family and friends.
