Joanne Ione Peterson – Obit

Joanne Ione (Eggebraaten) Peterson died peacefully at her home on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the age of 78 with her loving husband by her side.

Joanne was born on September 10, 1943, in Grand Forks, ND to Arthur and Helga (Anderson) Eggebraaten and was the youngest of 13 children. She was baptized on September 29, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. She was confirmed in the Christian faith on May 19, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisher, MN. She graduated from Aaker’s Business College as a Clerk-Typist in 1965 and worked at the courthouse in Crookston for a few years.

Joanne was united in marriage to Jonathan Peterson on June 9, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisher. They made their home by Lockhart, MN, and were active members of the First English Lutheran Church. Together they raised 3 daughters: Janelle, Jodi, and Jerilyn.

Joanne loved to sing. She had a beautiful alto voice and could often be found singing along to Christian music or practicing a piece on the piano. Together, she and Jon sang with “The Inspirations” gospel choir for over 20 years. In later years she enjoyed singing with the church choir. She loved church hymns and could often be heard humming them while she worked.

Joanne loved being social. She enjoyed having friends and family over for coffee or socializing after church. She loved playing cards and board games with her kids and grandchildren. When she knew they were coming, she would be there to greet them at the door and was always ready with a hug when they were leaving. Joanne always tried to have bars, cookies, or treats on hand “just in case” someone stopped by. She was going to make sure everyone had plenty to eat and drink.

Joanne loved family reunions and catching up with her brothers and sisters – both the in-laws and the outlaws as she would say! Her favorite part was singing in harmony with her siblings and telling stories around the campfire. Being the youngest of 13 and the smallest by far, Joanne was no stranger to jokes. She loved to laugh, and she could give it as well as take it.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jonathan Peterson; daughters, Janelle (Lonnie) Knoell, Jodi Peterson, and Jerilyn (Bryan) Kazeck; grandchildren, Paul Knoell, Renae (Winston) LaJesse, Shawn Kazeck, and Caleb Kazeck; siblings, Anna, Ruth, Norman, Paul, Lois, and Raymond; and sisters-in-law, Eldora, and Betty Jo.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, Art, and Helga; 2 sisters, Martha and Doris; 4 brothers, John, Bernard, Harold, and Kenny; and siblings-in-law, Lavon, Larry, and Marvin.

Joanne had many nieces, nephews, and in-laws and loved all her family very much.
