JOE BUSHAW SENTENCED IN THEFT BY DECEPTION CASE

Joe Bushaw, 22, of Crookston, has been sentenced to 360 days in prison, with all but one day suspended. With credit for one day served, he won’t serve any additional jail time.

Bushaw, the owner of Joe’s Cafe in East Grand Forks and Crookston, plead guilty to two Class C felonies. Theft by deception and misapplication of entrusted property.

A woman who worked for Bushaw claimed he deducted money from her paychecks for her child support payments but did not submit all of it to the child support agency. According to court documents, Bushaw deducted $2,590.41 from the paychecks between January and July 2022, but only submitted child support payments amounting to $1,083.81.

Bushaw is required to pay back the remaining money owed in $50 payments.

Bushaw is on 18 months of unsupervised probation. If he successfully completes probation, his guilty pleas will be withdrawn, and the case will be sealed.
