Joel Vaughn Amiot – OBIT

Joel Vaughn Amiot, 56, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Joel, a New Year’s Baby, was born in Crookston on January 1, 1968, to Jerome “Jerry” and Priscilla (Veenstra) Amiot. He grew up in Crookston, surrounded by his three siblings and many extended family members. Joel attended Crookston Central High School, where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1986. During his time there he was a proud member of the varsity wrestling team.

On August 5, 1989, Joel was blessed by the birth of his son, Nick Amiot Blee. Joel and Nick cherished attending Vikings and Twins games together and enjoyed many memorable days on the lake with family. Joel was known for his strong work ethic and his exceptional talent in flooring installation. He owned and operated Amiot Installation for many years in Minnesota before relocating to Florida in 2004 to pursue new opportunities and goals.

Recently, Joel returned to Crookston to be closer to family. When his mother, Priscilla, required full-time care, Joel was by her side, grateful for the time they shared. Joel’s positive spirit, uplifting presence, and quick wit brightened the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Joel is survived by his son, Nick Amiot Blee (Jeannie); his father, Jerry Amiot; his sister, Sheila Champagne; his brothers, Jay Amiot and Aaron Amiot; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla Amiot-Waslaski, his stepfather, Rick Waslaski, his stepmother, Claire (Amiot) Rhode, and his grandparents.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Joel’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston, with Msgr. David Baumgartner, presiding. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the Mass. The service will be livestreamed by going to www.crookstoncathedral.com and clicking on the prompt to view. A recording will be available to watch in a few days on Joel’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com. Inurnment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
