Joseph Daniel Berg – OBIT

Joseph Daniel Berg was born on November 23, 1935, to Eddie and Marie (Skoien) Berg in Ada, Minnesota; he was their second child.

Throughout his childhood and teen years, Joe lived in several small towns in Northwestern Minnesota, eventually residing in Hendrum. He graduated from Hendrum High School in 1953, and after working on the family farm temporarily, he enlisted in the US Army, where he served from 1954-1957.

Honorably discharged from military service on Valentine’s Day, 1957, Joe returned home. That spring, he met the girl of his dreams while rollerskating in Crookston. He and Faith Aagot Johnson wed the following summer on June 7, 1958, at Sandhill Lutheran Church. They settled in Dilworth.

Joe had already kickstarted his career in the insurance industry, where he worked until his passing on May 3, 2024. He loved his profession and serving multiple generations of families in his 67 years in the business.

Joe and Faith welcomed four children during their nearly 66 years of marriage, including their sons Dean Allen and Daryl Armen, and daughters Deanna Lynn and Dawn Marie. They also became grandparents of twins, Stephen and Lauren Sinclair.

Together, Joe and Faith have lived in Fertile since 1970 and have been active members of Concordia Lutheran Church during this time.

During his 88 years, Joe traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada, as well as Mexico, England, and Norway. He will be remembered by countless people for his warm and friendly personality, positive outlook, his ability to make others feel welcome, his funny jokes, his love of pie and coffee, passion for cars and roadtrips, and an affinity for music, including singing karaoke. Joe taught many kids to drive (even before they were legal to do so) on country roads, sharing his love of teaching and showing patience with young people. He unwaveringly believed in his faith, family, friends, clients, and living authentically.

Joe is survived by his wife, Faith, and children Dean (Ruby-dec.), Deanna Sinclair (Jim), and Dawn Duncan (Michael), and grandchildren Stephen (Veronica Davis) and Lauren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Berg and Marie Scherfenberg, sister Marian Allen, brother Harold Scherfenberg, son Daryl Armen (1962-1963), and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He will be so greatly missed and fondly remembered.
