Joyce Louise Hagen – OBIT

Joyce Louise Hagen, 69, passed away peacefully at home in Scottsdale, AZ on March, 14, 2024 with her family by her side.

Born June 30, 1954 in Crookston, MN to Thomas and Virginia Hagen, Joyce was the seventh of eight children.

Joyce married Kurt Friedrich Eickhof on December 26, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. They were married for 36 years and were blessed with three children, Kale, Hadley, and Barret.

After graduating from Crookston Central High School in 1972, Joyce went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, a JD from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and a master’s in Arts Administration from Colombia University in New York City. She lived true to her core values of basic humanity, meaning and purpose, loved ones, spirituality, nature, creativity, community, and compassionate behavior.

She used her grant-writing skills to benefit numerous charitable organizations in Minnesota, North Dakota and Arizona and is fondly remembered for fostering the careers of many young people. A curious and enthusiastic artist, Joyce developed her unique style; she is well-known for her ‘Big Art.’ She loved showing her horse Aspen in Arizona.

Joyce is survived by her husband and children as well as siblings, Tana (Dan) Hagen-Merwin, Kristina Korsmo, Pamela (Curtis) Gudmundson, Lynn (Steven) Erie, Paul (Julie) Hagen, Phyllis (James Fischer) Hagen and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nanette Laila.

The service in memory and celebration of Joyce’s life will be held Tuesday, March 26th, 11:00am, at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 East Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. A lunch reception will follow the service.
