Judith Ann Olson – Obit

Judith Ann Olson, 80, of Halstad, MN passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in her home in Halstad after a courageous battle with cancer.

Judith Ann Jacobson was born August 24, 1939, to Philip & Harriet (Bjorge) Jacobson. She attended grade school in Caledonia, ND, graduated from Climax, MN High School in 1957 and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo ND. She married Albert (Bobby) Olson on December 30, 1957, and they spent the next 44 years farming and raising their children near Halstad.  Bobby passed away 2004.

She was a lifelong member of East Marsh River Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies aid and served many positions on the council.  She was a member of the Red River Homemakers, FHA Chapter mother for all three daughters and was also a 4-H leader for Marsh River 4-H Club. She was named Norman County Farm Woman of the Year in 1983 and in her “spare” time, was a mediator for the State of Minnesota Extension Service during the mid-1980’s farm crisis.

Judy was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The highlights of her day were talking with and spending time around her family.  She loved her children unconditionally and was always there to help or just to listen.  She was the best cheerleader for her grandchildren, spending countless hours at every sporting event, concert or anything they were a part of. They were her world, and she theirs.  The bond she shared with her 2 great grandsons these past 3 years was pure joy to watch and will be embedded in our hearts and minds forever. Her pride and joy was truly her family.

Judy is survived by four children;  Angela (Peter) Matthews, Kittery ME; Terri (Mike) Trygg, Halstad, MN; Roberta (Robert) Hettervig, Hillsboro ND; and Rodney (Anita) Olson, Halstad, MN; four grandchildren; Ross Hettervig, Brittany (Mike) Peschel, Blake Olson & Ryan Olson, and two Great Grandson’s; Jett & Cal Peschel. She is also survived by 5 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren and her very special cousins who still to this day meant the world to her, Patty Jewel and Joyce Gullingsrud. She is preceded in death by two infant siblings, her parents, and her husband Bobby.

Special thanks to Hospice of the RRV’s Green Team, and also Judy’s neighbors at the Heritage House in Halstad for their support and all the goodies they shared.
