Kevin Roy Barvels, 71, of rural Crookston, MN passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021, peacefully at his home. He was born on October 27, 1949, to Roy and Marjorie (Suter) Barvels of Fairmont, MN.
Kevin took pride in his service in the Air Force working in communications and often spoke highly of being stationed overseas in places like Germany, Spain, and Turkey, noting the amazing food and landscapes. He married Sheryl Ann (Carlson) Barvels of Langford, SD on December 21, 1979, and they had two children, Jonathan (Beth) Barvels of Bend, OR, and Benjamin (Emily) Barvels of Fargo, ND. He retired after over 35 years of service as a lineman and service rep at Ottertail Power Company in 2014. Kevin was an avid outdoorsman. A couple of his favorite things were hunting and fishing with friends and family. He especially liked to fish for walleye at Lake of the Woods and hunt pheasant in South Dakota.
Kevin survived by his wife, sons, daughters-in-law; grandchildren, Max and Sophie; brothers, Garry (Mary) Barvels of Saint Charles, MN, Jerome (Marcille) Barvels of Lake Lillian, MN, and Joel (Vanessa) Barvels of Stillwater, MN; and sisters, Ruth (Duane) Spoo of Deer Park, WI and Nancy (Bruce) Spoo of Baldwin, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene and sisters, Viva Oven and Barbara Malo.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN. Military Honors will follow provided by the Crookston Veterans Council and the Grand Forks Airforce Base Honor Guard.
