LaVina Krueger (Franz) – OBIT

LaVina Krueger (Franz), 92, passed away peacefully at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN, on Friday, July 5, 2024, with family in attendance.  LaVina was born June 22, 1932, in Fredonia, ND, the oldest of 10 children born to Emil and Ella (Hein) Franz.  LaVina grew up on the family farm in rural Fredonia, resided in Crookston, MN, from 1968 through 2019, and at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN, thereafter.

In 1949  LaVina married her husband, Arno (Arne) Krueger of Fredonia, ND. They made their first home in Kulm, ND where LaVina was a housewife and worked various part-time jobs.  While in Kulm, LaVina gave birth to her two sons, Bruce (Crookston, MN) and later Kerry (Westminster, CO).

In 1968, LaVina and Arne moved to Crookston, MN.  They lived at their home on Radisson road for 45 years until Arne’s passing in 2013.  LaVina then lived at Summerfield Apartments before coming to Fair Meadow in 2019.

LaVina attended rural schools through 5th grade.  During her early years in Crookston she earned her GED high school equivalency degree.  In Crookston, she worked for many years as a telephone operator for ATT and later as a Physical Therapy Assistant at the Villa Nursing Home.

LaVina cooked fantastic German-Russian food, like knefla, strudel, sauerkraut, keichla and kuchen, and made the very best chocolate chip cookies and home-canned garlic dill pickles.  She enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers, and was always on the lookout for bargains at local garage sales.

LaVina is survived by her sons Bruce (spouse Jill) and Kerry (spouse Gwen), her grandchildren Olivia (spouse Andy) Moraczewski (Elko-New Market, MN), Erin Krueger (Westminster, CO), and Jonathan (Jack) Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN).  LaVina also has two great grandchildren, Isaac and Eleanor Moraczewski (Elko-New Market, MN).

Services will be conducted privately by her family.  Memorials may be sent to Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
