LAW ENFORCEMENT 5K SUPPORTS BENEVOLENT FUNDS TO SUPPORT OFFICERS IN NEED

On Saturday morning members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Crookston Police Department, East Grand Forks Police Department, Grand Forks Police Department, and Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office and their families along with community members gathered together to run the Law Enforcement 5K.  The proceeds from the race are used to help local officers and their families in need explained Polk County’s Justin Swang, one of the event’s organizers. “It’s basically to help out officers in need,” said Swang.  “The Polk County Sheriff’s Office teams up with the East Grand Forks Police Department, Grand Forks Police Department, and Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office to put on this great event.  All the proceeds go towards benevolent funds for the four agencies.  It’s earmarked and put away just to help out officers in need.”

This is the second year of the run and was bigger than last year according to Swang, who hopes it keeps growing in the future.  “It’s a lot bigger than I thought,” said Swang. “As of last night we had a little over 220 registered and some more registered this morning.  It’s been a great turnout and bigger than last year.  The weather has been great for the last two years so can’t complain.”
