Lawrence “Larry” Peterson – Obit

Lawrence “Larry” Peterson, 78, of Lockhart passed away peacefully on September 20, 2019, in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on March 10, 1941 to Lawrence O. and Theodora  Peterson in their home in Lockhart.

Larry was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at First English Lutheran Church, Lockhart, MN.

Larry attended Lockhart Elementary until the 8th grade. He transitioned up to Crookston A.C. where he graduated. After High School he was drafted in the Army. On March 12, 1966 he married the love of his life, Betty Jo Merkens and together they raised two children on the family farm.

He was very active in his church and community.  Larry was a life-long farmer and enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing.  He was a master of making anything out of metal.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Joe Merkens;  sister, Lavon Lammer; sister-in-law, Joan Peterson; and brother-in-law, Lynn Lammer; and brother-in-law, Tim Merkens.

A couple of days before his passing, he said, “I’m the luckiest man in the world to have a precious family who is there for me.”  His family meant everything to him.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Stene of Ada; son, Kary (Mandi) Perterson of Lockhart; grandchildren, Lindsey(Kody Anderson) Stene of Fargo, Ali (Eli Swenson) Stene of Ada, Matti Stene of Ada, Nathan and Brody Peterson of Lockhart; siblings, Eldora Sheldon, Jonathan (Joanne) Peterson, and Marvin Peterson; many nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion, Tucker, his dog.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a Prayer Service 7:00PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Ada.

Funeral: Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Buriel:  Pleasant View Cemetery, Lockhart, MN.
