I had the honor of being sworn in for a sixth term as State Representative for District 1B this week. This session will look different, but I look forward to buckling down to work on the important issues we face this year. I hope to hear from the people of District 1B about the priorities and concerns of our area during the upcoming session.
I was also named to three House committees: Health Finance and Policy, Human Services Finance and Policy, and Industrial Education and Economic Development Finance and Policy. I was chosen to be the Republican Lead member on the Industrial Education and Economic Development Finance and Policy Committee.
Now that the Legislature is in session, the best way to reach me will be through either emailing rep.deb.kiel@gmail.com or calling my office at 651-296-5091. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns on a matter relating to state government.
Update on Governor’s Restrictions
On Wednesday, the Governor announced changes to his business and social restrictions, including the following changes:
- Restaurants allowed to reopen indoor dining at 50% capacity.
- Gyms remain open at 25% capacity, with the maximum occupancy raised to 250.
- Outdoor event capacity is raised to 250 at 25% capacity.
- Indoor entertainment and events (bowling alleys, movie theaters, museums, etc.) may open at 25 percent with a cap of 150.
- Youth and adult sports games may resume on January 14 with spectators subject to the same indoor entertainment restrictions.
- Pools are open at 25% capacity.
- Wedding receptions and other “private parties” may resume with limits. If food and drink are served there is a limit of two households or 10 people indoors and 3 households/15 people outdoors. If there is no food/drunk, they are covered by the event/entertainment restrictions.
- Churches remain open at 50% but the overall capacity limit has been lifted so there is no maximum.
You can read the full details of the updated restrictions in the Governor’s Executive Order here. While these new openings are better than the way things have been, I am particularly concerned about our youth sports. Most youth athletes will be required to wear a mask while playing their sport. I have already heard about some young athletes who have been adversely affected, with one student losing consciousness because of it. I hope the Governor will especially reconsider that restriction so that our youth athletes can safely play their sports.
