Linda Ardell (Pierce) Johnson – Obit

Linda Ardell (Pierce) Johnson, 75, rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings on June 7, 2022, after a lengthy, well-fought battle with heart disease.

She was born on April 5, 1947, to Lloyd & Adeline (Hansen) Pierce, at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN.  She remained in Crookston most of her life.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the CHS Class of 1965.

On July 23, 1966, she married Darryl Andrew Johnson of East Grand Forks, MN.  They briefly made their home in Mallory, MN before returning and settling in rural Crookston.  In 1968, they were blessed with the birth of their first child, a son, Brad.  Their family would continue to be blessed with the addition of three more children, son; Jason, and daughters; April & Mandy.

In 1982, the family moved into town, where Linda would be a stay-at-home mom and raise her four children in a beautiful, Victorian home in the Woods Addition.  She would spend many hours volunteering in her children’s classrooms and assisted with the many sports and activities they participated in.  She was a very talented seamstress who created many costumes for not only her own children’s activities such as community theater, baton, and figure skating, but she also created these for other children as well.

In 1990, when Darryl became ill, Linda started her career as a Secretary-Office Manager for Northland Ag in Crookston and then in Argyle, MN.  Years later as a Clerk at Tractor Supply Company in Grand Forks, ND and then went to work with her son, Jason, at Nordic Fiberglass in Warren, MN until her retirement in 2010.  Sadly, Darryl passed away in July of 1998.

When she wasn’t working or assisting with her children’s activities, Linda enjoyed spending her free time participating in ceramic classes, reading Harlequin Romance books on her porch swing, and attending group gatherings with her Fanny Home Study Club.  Her favorite time of the year was Summer when her family would come together and spend just about every weekend at their campsites at Trinity Point Campground.  There was nothing more important to Linda than spending time with her kids, grandkids, and eventually great-grandkids.  She loved a good conversation whether it be with family, friends, or a stranger she met in the aisle at the grocery store!

In 2018, Linda moved to Detroit Lakes, MN to be closer to her daughter, Mandy, after suffering from some health issues.  There she enjoyed drives around the lake, visits with her neighbors, holidays spent with family, and was frequently found in the stands at her grandkids sporting events.  She wasn’t going to let failing health stop her from having a good time.  Linda was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She loved her family and was happiest when they were around her.

Linda will be forever missed and is survived by her children: Brad (Kristen) Johnson of Benson, MN, April (Chad V.) Qualley of Ada, MN and Mandy (Chris) Cymbaluk of Detroit Lakes, MN; Grandchildren: Jon (Jenny Johnshoy), Mike, Breanna and Jessica Qualley, Derrek Kimble (Samantha Hogstad), Andrea Johnson, Stacy Johnson, Elle and Will Cymbaluk; Great grandchildren, Jameson and Ella Qualley; Sister, Nikki Love of Crookston, MN; Brothers in law, Gorman (Joyce) Johnson of East Grand Forks, MN and Ardel (Verdell) Johnson of East Grand Forks, MN; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Loved ones gone before her were her parents; husband, Darryl Johnson; her beloved son, Jason Johnson who passed away November 30, 2020; brother, Jeff Pierce; sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Stanley Tomaszewski; brother-in-law, Larry Love; and parent-in-laws, Andrew and Alice Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, at Linda’s personal request, she wishes monetary donations to be made in her memory to Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue in Rolla, ND or to a local Humane Society/Animal Shelter of your choice.

The funeral service for Linda will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crookston with Pastor Jeff Brown, officiating. Visitation will at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7 pm, and will continue at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. The services will be live-streamed by going to Linda’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view. A graveside service will take place at 4:30 pm at the Bethany Lutheran North Cemetery, near East Grand Forks, MN, Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
