Crookston High School Student Council Advisor and LEO Club Advisor Linda Morgan is looking for different ways to get students involved in the community. One of these ways this fall is by having a project through the High School’s LEO Club where students can help community members pick up and rake leaves in their yards.
Morgan explained a few more details about the project. “We have done this a little bit in the past but not much,” said Morgan. “I’m just trying to get out there and see if people in the community need help, and if they do, they can give me a call, and I can get a couple of students together to go out there and help them with raking leaves.”
For those interested in having some help raking leaves in their yard, you can contact Morgan by calling the Crookston High School at 218-281-2144 and asking for her extension.
Morgan said finding students to help with these projects has never been an issue as students are always looking to help. “Just the other day, kids asked if they could go clean the school grounds,” said Morgan. “So, we lined it up and were able to fill up four garbage bags, and it certainly does help a little bit.”
It’s that kind of attitude that has earned the Crookston Leo club with the Lions Organization Excellence Award for the past 30 years. Morgan talked about what the honor means. “We received the Excellence Award for the 30th straight year last year, and what that means is that we have the #1 Leo Club in the world.,” said Morgan. “We weren’t able to do as many projects last year with COVID-19, and so this year, we’re still trying to ramp up and put some projects together.”
Morgan believes the award is something community members should be proud of, as many former students from years ago are now seeing their own children also earn the award. Other projects for the LEO Club are still being worked out for the remainder of the fall semester.
